Schema Historical Versions Comparison

Hi,

I would like to know if one can find a tool in Incorta to compare data in "historical snapshots" that are being made once a schema loads. (Applies for Incorta cloud)

I am talking about the "Version History" option, that can be found under settings menu (a top wheel icon) under a specific schema, that has been loaded. I can see there two options to restore and export the specific "historical snapshot", but I have searched Incorta docs and only topic on historical saving: https://docs.incorta.com/cloud/tools-schema-designer-modes-and-versions/ does not suggest if it can be accessed.

I was reading an article https://community.incorta.com/t5/data-schemas-knowledgebase/snapshotting-data/ta-p/114 that may point to implement SCD logic on top of my schema as showed for example here https://community.incorta.com/t5/data-schemas-knowledgebase/supporting-slowly-changing-dimension-scd... but is there any tool or script that can help me with that (and maybe omit the SCD logic)?

Thanks and keep up with the great work, Incorta.

Sorry I don't fully understand your question. Do you want to compare the data loaded in Incorta or the schema definition change over time?

Hi Dylan,
that is exactly the point: I do not understand from docs, what is stored in the historical snapshot, maybe if I describe in detail, this is what I would like to achieve:

  • compare size of the schema / specific objects (how they evolved throughout the time)
  • put certain dimensions of data on timescale and see how it changed over time (for example a price of a product) - this is definitely about the data loaded in Incorta, but I am not sure about the first one

Cheers,
Jakub

The 1st link - https://docs.incorta.com/cloud/tools-schema-designer-modes-and-versions/  This is a feature of tracking the changes to the schema design.  The previous versions before you made the changes are saved and you are allowed to export a historical image of the schema and you restore back to an old image.

This feature has nothing to do with the snapshot of "data" but the different versions of the design of schema.  For example if you delete a table and you would like to restore the table, you can find the schema version before you made the deletion and restore the scheme to the past, before the deletion was made.

Okay, this indicates there is currently not any built-in tool, that could cope with my problem and I have to use higher logic as suggested in links I submitted in my first message.

Thank you, I am accepting that.
